In the long-established midsummer’s endurance race, Round 6 of SUPER GT the “International POKKA 1000km” event took place on August 24th at Suzuka Circuit (1 lap: 5.807km). Starting from fourth on the grid, the CALSONIC IMPUL GT-R (#12 Tsugio Matsuda/Sebastien Philippe) withstood the severe long-distance and about six hours’ racing to take the win. The NISSAN GT-R has now taken a total of four victories from six races in this season’s SUPER GT.

Setting the 2ND-quickest time in qualifying, the MOTUL AUTECH GT-R (#22 Michael Krumm/Masataka Yanagida/Dominik Schwager) inherited pole position when the #100 NSX had to start from the back, ahead of the 173-lap, 1,000-kilometre event. From the opening lap, veteran driver Michael Krumm led beautifully, handing over to Yanagida from the front as scheduled. Though he temporarily lost the lead due to being blocked by a GT300 car ahead, the team’s deft pit work ensured they soon returned to the head of the field. Krumm and Yanagida alternated driving duties, safeguarding their position until the halfway point of the race. On lap 118, third driver Dominik Schwager got behind the wheel. Soon after, the rear cowl suddenly started to come off the car, making for a very delicate situation. An unscheduled visit to the pits meant that regrettably, the machine fell out of contention for the win. However, the team fought relentlessly to the very end, and with Michael Krumm driving the final stint, reached fourth place at the flag.

The Philippines in Formula 1

Posted by PitBoss On February - 5 - 2008

Previously there were rumors amongst Nissan Fanboys around the world that Nissan may join Formula 1 in the future. Though we all would love that to happen so we could watch our favorite car manufacturer go up against Toyota and Honda in Godzilla-esque battles for the checkered flag, it would be even more interesting to see the Philippines fund its’ own F1 team. A little out of the blue?

India having released last month the cheapest car in the world, the Tata Nano, will be running their own team in this year’s Formula 1 season. The team, Force India, recently purchased control of the ex-Spkyer F1 team. Spyker will still remain as a constructor for the new team as Force India intend to build their own cars rather than purchase existing chassis’. India is really making an effort to develop their auto industry.

The upcoming GT-R GT500 (see GT-R Back in Action) is destined to wear the new Nissan Works paint-scheme as decided upon by close collaboration between Nissan’s design team and NISMO (Nissan Motor Sports) along with feedback from members of the Club NISMO fan club. The new livery will be used by Nissan in all its motorsports activities in 2008. This will help audiences associate the GT-R GT500 immediately with Nissan.

GT-R Back in Action

Posted by PitBoss On November - 10 - 2007

It’s been four years since the GT-R last competed in the JGTC when it won the championship in 2003. Now Nissan has been spied testing the track version of the GT-R and it looks like Batman has a new car. In all black livery, the body is completely carbon fibre, the GT-R surely fits the part as a Batmobile but doesnt need a jet engine to get it going fast. With a new 4.5 Liter V8 engine the GT-R will have 500HP and 510NM of torque. That’s plenty fast for a normally aspirated engine and without turbo lag too! Makes you wonder what they’ll use for the GT-R V-Spec and V-Spec II? Lets hope that Nissan has plans of taking on Le Mans with this car as well, as we predict it will be very competetive.

Nissan to join Formula 1 – Next Year

Posted by PitBoss On October - 31 - 2007

Well here’s one for the F1 fan in all of us! It’s been speculated that Nissan has plans of joining Formula 1 next year. Considering that the new GT-R has an electronic manual transmission system, similar to transmissions used in Formula 1 and other high-end sports cars, and many years of success in the JGTC and successes in Le Mans racing, Nissan may already have the technology to start their own F1 team – or at least get started with help from an existing F1 team.
